What is A Paramedical Exam?
A paramedical examination is the collection of an applicant's medical history through an in -person interview process.

A routine paramedical exam also includes:
  • Recording of height and weight
  • Recording of blood pressure and pulse
  • Collection of urine specimen*
  • EKG, X-ray and/or blood draw*

  • *Based on underwriting guidelines. May vary according to applicant's age and amount applied.

    Where is the exam completed?
    Medically trained professionals will complete the exam at the applicant's home or place of business at a time that is convenient. Appointments can be scheduled anytime during the day, evening or weekend hours.


    Exam Tips


    In order to obtain accurate physical measurements and health history information, it is suggested the applicant:

  • Be prepared to provide member numbers of any Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
  • Provide any history of problems associated with giving a blood sample (fainting, seizures, etc.) to the technician upon his/her arrival.
  • Provide names and dosages of medications currently being taken.
  • Limit coffee and smoking for one hour prior to the appointment.
  • Drink a glass of water one hour prior to the appointment to help in obtaining a urine specimen. Try to drink 8 glasses a water a day for the week prior to the exam to help cleanse your body
  • Watch your diet and try to eliminate fatty foods in the days prior to your exam
  • Eat regular oatmeal with a banana every other day for a week prior to your exam
  • Walk 20-30 minutes a day for a week prior to your exam
  • Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages including beer and wine for at least 12 hours prior to the appointment.
  • Get a good night's sleep the night before the exam.
  • Please have available for reference, the names, addresses and phone numbers of any doctors or clinics visited within the past 5 years.
